Europe-wide unique processing plant: In Kottingbrunn aluminium cans get a second life
Visit to the SKAPA Recycling GmbH by LR Danninger

St. Pölten (OTS/NLK) - SKAPA Recycling GmbH specialises in the recycling of aluminium cans, buys used aluminium cans throughout Austria and internationally and sells the recycled UBCs (used beverage cans) to partners worldwide. The recycling company has been operating a UBC processing plant at CCK Wirtschaftspark Kottingbrunn since 2010. In 2017, the company expanded the site with a 1,500 m² production hall.

Economic Affairs Councillor Jochen Danninger recently found out about current developments and challenges during a company visit. "With innovative companies such as SKAPA Recycling GmbH, which develop sustainable processes in the sense of a circular economy, we are optimally preparing our business location for future challenges. With our business agency ecoplus, we are also currently focusing on future-oriented topics such as climate-friendly business, digitalisation or cooperation and networks," emphasised Jochen Danninger, Regional Minister for Economic Affairs.

"Here in Kottingbrunn, we have invested in a sophisticated processing plant that ensures 99 per cent purity and is unparalleled anywhere else in Europe. We are currently ramping up collection campaigns throughout Eastern Austria, collecting at systems/communities, events and at other collection points. We have always focused on innovation and offer recycling from 'can to can'," says Anton Skalnik, managing director of SKAPA Recycling GmbH.

CCK Wirtschaftspark Kottingbrunn is located in an extremely efficient and booming economic region. Situated only 25 km south of Vienna, close to the southern motorway and the southern railway, this location leaves nothing to be desired. Currently 47 companies with over 1,300 employees are located here. In addition, the business park is a prime example of a value-added and job-dense re-use of an unused brownfield site. In this case, it is the former extensive test site of a tyre manufacturer on which the modern business park was built.

As the state's business agency, ecoplus operates a total of 17 business parks in ownership or participation throughout Lower Austria. "We work with great commitment to provide the best possible framework conditions for the businesses in our business parks - and this is also the case at the CCK Business Park Kottingbrunn," informed ecoplus Managing Director Helmut Miernicki and CCK Managing Director Roland Zellhofer.
